Changing the Oil and Filter

WARNING
Hot oil and engine components can burn you. Make
sure the engine is cool before doing this job.
Used engine crankcase lubricants contain harmful
contaminants. In laboratory tests it was shown that
used engine oils can cause skin cancer.

CAUTION
Keep your face away from the drain hole when
removing the drain plug.

Remove the engine skid plate to gain access to the
engine drain plug (if necessary).

Place a container beneath the engine (to catch the
oil). Remove the drain plug

. Let the oil drain out,
then clean and refit the drain plug.

CAUTION
The oil filter canister will contain some oil which could
spill out when you remove the canister.

Unscrew the filter canister

. If necessary use a chain
or strap wrench. Clean the filter mounting face.
Smear the seal on the new filter canister with oil.
Screw in the new canister - hand tight and then one
quarter turn.
