JAYCO TOWABLE SECTION 8 – PLUMBING SYSTEM
8-5
Operating instructions:
Read the safety and operating information provided in the manufacturer’s manual before
attempting to activate the water heater.
Make sure the water heater is filled with water before use; even momentary operation of
the water heater without water in it may result in damage to the tank
heating element
and/or controls.
Double check the bypass valves,
make sure they are set
properly.
Always
open both the hot and cold water faucets when filling the fresh water tank to allow
air pockets to be forced out of the water heater
Water heater switch (if so equipped)
The "propane GAS" water heater switch enables propane operation of the water heater.
The "ELECTRIC" water heater switch enables electric operation of the water heater.
Switches are typically located on the Monitor Panel. For detailed information on their
operation refer to the
Monitor Panel
section.
Water heater-pilot light (if so equipped)
This water heater is gas only with a pilot ignition. The water heater controls are typically
located in an outside compartment, and is ignited manually from the outside of the vehicle.
Hot water will be available in approximately 30 minutes.
WARNING
Do not replace any component part with an accessory part that is not authorized by
the water heater manufacturer, such as an “add-on” electric heating element. Such
items are not approved to be installed and could create an unsafe condition and will
void all warranties.
WARNING
Hydrogen gas may result if you have not used the water heater for two weeks or
more.
HYDROGEN GAS IS EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE.
To reduce the risk
of injury under these conditions, open the hot water faucet for several minutes at the
kitchen sink before you use any electrical appliance connected to the hot water
system. If hydrogen is present, you may hear what sounds like air escaping through
the pipe as the water begins to flow. Hydrogen gas may be present even after water
has been drained from the water heater tank. Open the faucet at the sink and allow
the system to vent for five to ten minutes. Do not smoke or have any open flame near
the open faucet
while venting. On DSI water heater models, make sure the switch is
OFF.
WARNING
If you smell propane gas then STOP! and follow the procedures listed in the Fuel
Systems section of this manual before attempting to operate the water heater.
