Initial operation
To place the UMG 510 into operation follow these in-
structions:
- connect power supply
- connect voltage to measure
- connect current to measure
- set up measurement parameters
Voltage measurement
The UMG 510 is designed to measure voltages up
to 500VAC line-to-ground and 870 VAC line-to-line.
DC voltages cannot be measured by the UMG 510.
Use potential transformers to measure voltages of
more than 500VAC line-to-ground.
After connecting check the voltage reading with the
input voltages. If using potential transformers please
consider the winding ratio.
Initial operation
Power supply
The nominal range of the supply voltage is stated on
the type plate of the unit. Failure to comply with the
specified supply voltage range will lead to malfunc-
tion or damage of the UMG 510. Connect the supply
voltage to terminals 17 and 18. The maximum volt-
age difference of each of these terminals to case
(protective) ground is 300VAC. If this limit is ex-
ceeded, the unit may fail. To prevent overvoltages at
the power supply input always use grounded power
supplies. The wiring material used for the power sup-
ply must be suitable for voltages up to 300VAC.
Ꮨ
The protective ground must always be con-
nected for continued safety and function of
the UMG 510 .
Current measurement
Connect the current measurement inputs one by
one and check the current and power readings with
the expected values. Short the current transformer
secondary to see the current reading get smaller.
Each current measurement input withstands unlim-
ited overload up to 6A and 1 second overload of
60A. Higher overload may damage the unit and pos-
sibly break the current path.
The UMG 510 is designed to use current transform-
ers with nominal 1A or 5A secondaries.
