ROOF VENT INSTALLATION
If the vent is longer than 8 ft. it must be rigid to make
installation easier.
Start by determining where the outlet will be on the roof, and
cut an opening that fits the firestop used. Be careful: the opening
on the roof will be oval due to the angle of the roof. Build an interior
frame 9 x 12.5 in. for a 45° slope) around the opening to allow a
minimum clearance of 1 in. from combustible materials. It is best
to set the opening between the beams to minimize the work.
In attics, you may use an insulating shield for attic as well as
an insulating sleeve. However, use of the firestop is required
when the vent goes through combustible materials.
If your vent is 8 ft. long or less, use the flexible vent provided with the
fireplace.
For a vertical vent outlet, you must cut roof covering on a radius of
18 inches around the opening. Then fix the roof support to the roof with
screws provided for this purpose. (Figure 3.2.3.8.c)
Put high temperature latex sealant on the central connector of the
rigid vent. Attach the central flexible vent on the central connector of the
rigid vent and be sure to cover all the connector with the flexible and
screw it using three self-tapping screws. Do the same with the outer
flexible vent. (Figure 3.2.3.8.d)
