Setting up remote control via Microsoft HYPERTERMINAL.EXE
1) Connect the cable between the RS232 socket on the light meter and a
COM port on the PC. Note: If no COM ports are available, an RS232-
to-USB converter can be used to simulate a COM port.
2) Switch on the light meter.
3) Run the
HyperTerminal
programme. (This is usually found in directory
C:\Program Files\Windows NT)
4) Enter a name for the session (e.g. L203 etc.) and click OK to continue.
5) Specify the type of connection using the setting
Connect using:
and
select whichever COM port is to be used. Click OK to continue.
6) Enter the serial connection details which are: 4800 bits per second, 8
data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and no flow control. Click OK to continue.
7) Click the properties icon or select via the
File / Properties
option to
display the properties window.
8) Select the
Settings
tab and Auto detect for the
Emulation
setting.
9) Click the
ASCII Set-up
button.
Enter 100 into
Line delay
box. No
other changes are necessary. Click OK to return to the main window.
10)Check the RS232 link integrity by typing the command 'o', (lowercase
o) in the terminal window. This also allows auto detect to identify the
meter settings, showing 4800 8-N-1 next to the Auto detect message
in the status bar. A meter reading should appear in the main terminal
window if the connection is successful.
11)To save the terminal set-up go to
File / Save As
and save settings.
When restarting the programme the settings can be loaded directly by
double-clicking on the
session-name
.ht icon that has been created
(See C:\Documents and Settings\User\Start
Menu\Programs\Accessories\Communications\HyperTerminal) so that
actions 4 to 9 can be omitted.
