Introduction and Startup
1
The Intel
®
PXA27x Processor Developer’s Kit (kit), constitutes a software-development kit based
on Intel
®
PXA270 Processor. This kit provides all of the system components necessary for
Microsoft Windows* CE, Symbian*, Palm*, Linux, and other full-featured, handheld operating
system.
Note:
The kit comes with a factory installed the Intel
®
PXA270 Processor.
The Intel
®
PXA270 Processor is the third implementation of the Intel XScale
®
microarchitecture
family, featuring an improved LCD controller, expanded card interface, and more conservative
power management features. It is also the first processor in the family to include a baseband
interface, integrated SRAM, a camera capture interface, scalable core frequencies, USB On-the-Go
(OTG), full SDIO support, and an Intel coprocessor. The coprocessor extends the Intel XScale
®
microarchitecture capabilities by adding MMX and SSE functionality and additional audio and
video processing operations.

System Overview
The kit provides access to most of the Intel
®
PXA270 Processor native input/output (I/O)
functions. The kit kit consists of:
•
Intel
®
PXA27x Processor Developer’s Kit Main Board (main board), which contains
peripheral and expansion capability to aid in application software development
•
Intel
®
PXA27x Processor Developer’s Kit Daughter Card (daughter card), which can either
dock with the main board or operate independently
•
Intel
®
PXA27x Processor Card (processor card), which is a board to allow for field upgrades
to the kit system as new steppings of silicon arrive.
•
Intel
®
PXA27x Processor Developer’s Kit Power Manager Integrated Circuit (Low DropOut)
Card (PMIC card) card, which supplies all the various power domains for the system
•
Intel
®
PXA27x Processor Developer’s Kit UCB1400 Audio Module (audio module), which
allows for the changing of audio CODECs depending on system usage.
