Carefully rotate the hand wheel in direction of
motion (DOM) until the clamp lightly touches
the bottom of the bearing surface.
NOTE
: DOM is counterclockwise when looking directly at the hand wheel from the rear of the
machine.
NOTE
: One of the most common mistakes made by newer technicians is turning the hand wheel
the wrong direction, clockwise, during this step or when making the actual adjustment.
NOTE
: Another common mistake is the technician does not turn the hand wheel at all and
therefore sets the hook to the needle at BDC instead of at 2.6mm loop lift.
NOTE
: If the hand wheel is turned too hard, the clamp will slip on the needle bar making the
check invalid.

Check the position of the hook point relative to the needle.
