Static IP
Under certain conditions it makes sense to perpetually
find a device at the same address. In fact, most networks are now set up in such a way
that the ID address of the TCP/IP protocol, the so-called IP address, is assigned dynami-
cally. This means that the respective device is assigned any valid IP address via a so-called
DHCP server during the initial connection setup and as long as this is not used anywhere
else, it remains with this IP address.
The user does not notice anything, everything happens completely automatically. Howe-
ver, if a network is based on static IPs, i.e. not on dynamically assigned IP addresses, there
are usually precise rules as to which numbers
may be selected. The DABMAN i300 CD also has such an IP address.
If the network wants a static IP address, you have to know the rules for assigning it.
7.1.2. The Network Setup Wizard
Since the DABMAN i300 CD as a network device does not yet have any information about
the possible network environments from which it draws its content, you will automatically
proceed to the network setup wizard after it has been switched on for the first time and
the language has been selected:
As in all other menus of the DABMAN, you can use the navigation wheel or the ‘Up’ and
‘Down’ or ‘Left’ and ‘Right’ buttons on the remote control to move through the selection.
Confirm by pressing the navigation wheel or OK on the remote control.
The wizard now automatically connects to your router and obtains its network address
from the DHCP server. Every device that wants to join the network needs such a ‘house
number’ so that the data can be delivered correctly.
