The following table lists thermal-dissipation requirements for an XIV system
with 15 modules. To support future capacity upgrades, the installation site
must provide cooling arrangements to support a full 15-module rack
configuration.

Ensure that the installation site meets the airflow requirements that are listed in
the following table.
The airflow for partial-rack configurations is the typical value and is provided
only for reference purposes. To support future capacity upgrades, the site must
provide more airflow space to support a full-rack configuration.
The airflow values assume a maximum inlet air temperature of 25°C (77°F).

Temperature threshold and events
Attention:
The XIV Storage System handles overheating by informing the
administrator through warning events and initiating an automatic thermal
shutdown as a last resort.
Note:
v
These event notifications indicate to the administrators if the system temperature
is: normal, high, too high, and critically high; above which shutdown will be
applied immediately. The following tables depict the temperature thresholds and
events received. For systems running microcode version 11.6 or later, see
Table 27 on page 45. For systems running microcode version 11.1 – 11.5, see
Table 28 on page 45.
v
After a manual or automatic thermal shutdown due to thermal conditions, IBM
support must be immediately contacted. Do not attempt to power up the system
before contacting IBM support.
