primary and
alternate
keyboards.
You
have
already
been
using your
primary keyboard.

The
primary
keyboard
allows
you
to
type
in
your
own
lan-
guage.
Your
typewriter
automatically
sets
your primary
keyboard
to
match
the
keybuttons
on
your
typewriter.

Alternate
keyboards,
when
used
with
the
appropriate
printwheels,
allow
you
to
type
in
other
languages
such
as
French
and
Spanish,
or
ASCII
(PC)
and
Latin
Supplemental
ISO.
Matching
Printwheels
and Keyboards
Each
printwheel
for
alternate
keyboards
contains
characters
other
than
those
printed
on
your typewriter
keybuttons.
You
can
access
characters
of
an
alternate
keyboard
by
typing
a
key-
board
change
called a keyboard
identification
(ID)
number.
The
keyboard
ID
is
printed
on
all
printwheels.
When
more
than
one
set
of
numbers
is
shown,
the
first
number
is
the
keyboard
ID;
for
example:
001-008.
The
keyboard
ID
for
the
United
States
is
001
or
1.
