Chapter 4. Installing the PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor
This chapter explains how to install the PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor. Before you
begin, be sure you have read “Handling Static-Sensitive Devices” on page vi and
“Special Considerations for Handling and Storage” on page 1.
Notes:
1. Do not remove the PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor from its anti-static package at
this time.
2. The PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor is a hot-pluggable device on some systems.
Refer to the
PCI Adapter Placement Reference
guide to determine if this
coprocessor is hot-pluggable on your system, then follow the instructions in this
chapter.
Installing the Coprocessor
To install the coprocessor, do the following:
1. Be sure you have read Chapter 1, “Description and Requirements” on page 1.
2. If you are replacing an existing coprocessor, go to step 3. Otherwise, do the
following:
a. If AIX is not installed on your system, refer to your system documentation and
install your coprocessor hardware, then install the AIX operating system.
b. If the coprocessor device driver is installed on your system, go to step 3.
Otherwise, go to Chapter 2, “Installing the Device Driver Software” on page 5
or Chapter 3, “Installing the Device Driver on the RS/6000 SP System” on
page 7.
3. If the coprocessor is hot-pluggable on your system (see note 2), continue with this
step. Otherwise, go to step 4 on page 14.
a. Log in as a
root
user.
b. Determine the
pkcsslotd
daemon process ID (PID) by typing the following
command:
ps -el |grep pkcsslotd
The data returned will be similar to the following example:
40401 A 0 75188
1 0 60 20 148c29 1348
*
- 0:00 pkcsslotd
In this example, 75188 is the
pkcsslotd
PID.
c. If the
pkcsslotd
daemon is not running (the
grep pkcsslotd
command does
not return a PID), go to step 5 on page 14. Otherwise, continue with step 3d.
d. Stop
all
of the applications that are running on
all
of the cryptographic
coprocessors and cryptographic accelerators in your system.
e. Stop the
pkcsslotd
daemon by typing the following command, then go to step
Kill -2
pkcsslotd PID
