GPFS Native RAID
GPFS Native RAID is a software implementation of storage RAID
technologies within GPFS. By using conventional dual-ported disks in a
JBOD configuration, GPFS Native RAID implements sophisticated data
placement and error correction algorithms to deliver high levels of storage
reliability, availability, and performance.
IBM provides a GPFS Native RAID offering that is based on storage building
blocks, which include storage servers, JBOD enclosures, and IBM GPFS
Native that easily enables the procurement of a scalable storage system.
For more information about IBM GPFS FPO and IBM GPFS Native RAID, see the
following sections:

8.3.1 IBM GPFS FPO
The GPFS FPO feature, which is available with GPFS V3.5 for Linux and above,
extends GPFS for a new class of data-intensive applications, which are
commonly referred to as big data applications.
IBM GPFS FPO provides customers with a flexible file system that can be
deployed as an enterprise class replacement for Hadoop Distributed File System
(HDFS), bringing full POSIX file system compliance, no single point of failure,
and enhanced security. Figure 8-2 shows a typical HDFS environment.
