Chapter 8. Software stack
217
Hardware control point discovery by using Service Location Protocol (SLP):
BladeCenter Advanced Management Module (AMM), IBM Power Systems™
HMC, and Flexible Service Processor (FSP).
Supported hardware
The following hardware is supported and tested by xCAT:
IBM BladeCenter with AMM
IBM System x
IBM Power Systems (including the HMC)
IBM iDataPlex
IBM Flex System
IBM NeXtscale System
Machines that are based on the Intelligent Platform Management Interface
(IPMI)
Because only IBM hardware is available for testing, this is the only hardware
supported. However, other vendors’ hardware can be managed with xCAT. For
more information and the latest list of supported hardware, see this website:

8.2 IBM Platform Cluster Manager
The IBM Platform Cluster Manager family provides full cluster lifecycle
management. Cluster Manager family include the following main products:
The IBM Cluster Manager Standard Edition (SE) to manage a single cluster
and integrate with IBM Platform HPC offering (see 8.5, “IBM Platform HPC”
on page 229).
The IBM Cluster Manager Advanced Edition (AE), which includes advanced
cluster management capabilities, such as, the ability to manage multiple
clusters, including HPC and analytics.
Table 8-1 on page 218 lists the features that each product supports.
Note: Although xCAT is an Open Source Initiative that is provided under the
Eclipse license and freely available, official IBM support can be contacted.
