Software features
Software features differ depending on the software package that is purchased with
the device. The BASE package on the c-series switches support full Layer 2
switching and base Layer 3 routing (RIP and static routes). The Metro Edge
Premium Activation (ME_PREM) package support full Layer 2 Switching, base
Layer 3 routing (RIP and static routes) plus Provider Bridges (IEEE 802.1ad),
Provider Backbone Bridges (IEEE 802.1ah), OSPF, IS-IS, Connectivity Fault
Management (IEEE 802.1ag) and Service OAM. The Layer 3 Premium Activation
(L3_PREM) package support full Layer 2 Switching, base Layer 3 routing (RIP and
static routes) plus full Layer 3 routing including BGP, OSPF, and IS-IS.
All devices can be upgraded to either the Metro Edge Premium Activation
(ME_PREM) package or Layer 3 Premium Activation (L3_PREM) package by
ordering the appropriate upgrade features. You cannot install more than one
premium package on the same device. This means the device can be upgraded
with either the ME_PREM package or the L3_Prem package but not both. To
upgrade your BASE device, please follow the instructions provided in the upgrade
package to apply your license and activate the features.
Hardware features
This section describes the physical characteristics of the switches. For details about
physical dimensions, power supply specifications, and pinouts, see “Hardware
specifications,” on page 61.
The following figures show the front panels of the devices.
B24C (Copper) (4002-C2A / 4002AC2)
The B24C (Copper) switch has twenty-four 10/100/1000 MbE RJ45 ports including
four combination 100/1000 MbE SFP ports, one module slot for an optional field
upgradeable 2-port 10 GbE XFP module, one DB9 serial management interface port
labeled Console, one 10/100/1000 MbE RJ45 out-of-band management port, one
resilient six-fan fan tray, and two AC power supply bays for 1+1 redundancy with
one 500 W AC power supply included.
B24C (Fiber) (4002-C2B / 4002BC2)
The B24C (Fiber) switch has twenty-four 100/1000 MbE SFP ports including four
combination 10/100/1000 MbE RJ45 ports, one module slot for an optional field
upgradeable 2-port 10 GbE XFP module, one DB9 serial management interface port
labeled Console, one 10/100/1000 MbE RJ45 out-of-band management port, one
resilient six-fan fan tray, and two AC power supply bays for 1+1 redundancy with
one 500 W AC power supply included.
