Description of the software images required
The functionality within each of the software images required to operate the
c-series switches is described in Table 11. Because the functions that are most likely
to change are contained within the Multi-Service IronWare image, updates will
usually only require updating the Multi-Service IronWare image. The initial release
of the c-series switches supports Multi-Service IronWare version R03.8.00c. For the
latest support information, please visit the Ethernet products support web-site.

Note: The c-series switches use the same file image for both the boot and monitor
images.
Upgrading the multi-service IronWare software
When performing this upgrade, you will usually only need to upgrade
Multi-Service IronWare image. The Boot and Monitor images will only need to be
upgraded as specifically directed in the relevant release notes.
The steps for this upgrade include the following:
1. Determine the versions of the software images currently installed and running
on the switch.
2.
Upgrade the device’s Multi-Service IronWare Image.
3. Reboot the switch.
In most cases, this is all that will be required. If you are directed by the release
notes to upgrade the Monitor or Boot images, use the following procedures:
1. Upgrade the monitor and boot images of the switches.
Use the procedures described in “Upgrading the device’s monitor and boot
images” on page 52.
2. Reboot the switch.
