Planning for a Ring or Point-to-Point Configuration
The 7299 Multiplexer can be configured with a variety of input ports and their
addresses using up to three Device 7299 Multiplexers from the Host 7299
Multiplexer location. The geographic diversity of your installation determines the
number of multiplexers and the distance between them.
Filling Out the 7299 Multiplexer Worksheet
Note: The connector number on the Host Multiplexer corresponds directly (1-to-1)
with the connector numbers on each Device Multiplexer (either Point-to-Point or
Ring).
The connector numbers may (or may not) correspond to the Port numbers
assigned by the WSC to which the Host Multiplexer is connected. If an entire 8-port
WSC is connected via the DB25 Direct Connect Cable or is wired 1-to-1 with a
Twinax Breakout Box (Box port 0 to Multiplexer port 0 and so on) the numbering of
the connectors will correspond directly to the WSC port numbering. If the two
channels (sides A and B) of the Host Multiplexer are connected to different WSC
four-port polling groups, the connector numbers may (or may not) correspond
directly to the WSC port numbering.
To fill out the 7299 Multiplexer worksheet:
1. Write in your location Host designation and WSC designation for Polling Group
A and Polling Group B for the Host End Multiplexer (top half of the form).
Remember that all ports in Side A or Side B must be from the same polling
group.
2. Write in your location's Host Port designation for each connector on the Host
End Multiplexer.
3. Circle the choice of connector (RJ45 or DB25) that you will use to connect to
the Host End Multiplexer from your Host.
4. If you plan to use pinouts on the RJ45 other than the default configuration pair
4/5 (for example 3/6 or 1/2), write in that change for each port.
5. Circle the choice of connector (RJ45 or DB25) that you will use to connect from
the Device End Multiplexer(s) to your Devices.
6. If you plan to use pinouts on the RJ45 other than the default configuration (for
example 3/6 or 1/2), write in that change for each port on the Device End
Multiplexer(s).
7. Write in your choice of Addresses to be used at each Device End Multiplexer.
Addresses may not be repeated in any row (port).
The 7299 Multiplexer supports up to 56 addresses (eight ports times seven
addresses for each port). This assumes that the two connected Polling Groups (A
side, B side of the Multiplexer) are not from the same WSC because each WSC is
limited to 40 addresses.
