Connecting Your Printer to an IBM AS/400
This section contains instructions for connecting your printer to an
IBM AS/400.

For additional information, see your AS/400 documentation.

1. Changing your Printer Configuration

Your 4230 Printer can be configured either as a 4230 Printer (if
your version of OS/400* supports the 4230 Printer), by setting

4224 Emulation Mode to No on Models 102, 1I1, 202, and 2I1

or Host Emulation Mode to 4230 on Models 4I3 and 5I3, or as

an IBM 4224 Printer (if your version of OS/400 does not support

the 4230 Printer) by setting 4224 Emulation Mode to Yes on

Models 102, 1I1, 202, and 2I1 or Host Emulation Mode to 4224

on Models 4I3 and 5I3.

For Models 102, 1I1, 202, and 2I1, the printer is shipped with

4224 Emulation Mode set to Yes. To set your printer's 4224

Emulation Mode to No, see “Using Printer Setup Parameters” in

IBM 4230 Printer Models 102, 1I1, 202, 2I1, 4I3, and 5I3

Operator Panel Instructions for information on configuring your

printer.

For Models 4I3 and 5I3, the printer is shipped with Host

Emulation Mode set to 4224. To set your printer's Host

Emulation Mode to 4230, see “Using Printer Setup Parameters”

in IBM 4230 Printer Models 102, 1I1, 202, 2I1, 4I3, and 5I3

Operator Panel Instructions for information on configuring your

printer.

The 4230 printer (local or remote) is supported by OS/400 as
follows:

4230 mode (AFP *Yes or *No): V2R2 or later
4224 mode (AFP *No): V1R1 or later
4224 mode (AFP *Yes): V2R1 or later

Note: The AFP* parameter is part of the printer's device
description on the AS/400.
