Congratulations! In choosing I/OMagic’s MagicSurfer 56K Internal PCI modem, you
have chosen to equip your personal computer with one of the best high-speed
fax/modem in the market today. Your MagicSurfer 56K Internal PCI modem utilizes a
Host Signal Processing Modem chip (HSP Modem), which implements ITU-T V.90
protocols and 56K technology. That translates into one of the fastest, most powerful
fax/modem today over analog telephone lines.

In the past analog modems have traditionally used a digital signal processor chip to
provide the processing power required to perform telecommunication functions. The
Conventional DSP modem has also included a memory chip for processing data, a
universal asynchronous receiver and transmitter and a controller chip. MagicSurfer
56K Internal PCI has streamlined all of this. The HSP software solution, operating
within the Microsoft Windows environment, reduces the need for hardware
components by becoming part of the host computer’s system software. This results in
the HSP solution requiring 70% less power to operate and 75% less real estate on the
modem board.
This product includes high-speed data and fax capabilities with the ability to receive
data from compatible central sites at speeds up to 56K bps. The MagicSurfer 56K
Internal PCI modem achieves this breakthrough speed by communicating directly to
the central site office. That process eliminates the overhead of analog to digital
conversion processes needed by V.34 modems (See Appendix A for information on
the 56K solution).
