Setting the installer laptop IP address
These instructions explain how to set a specific public IP address on the installer laptop computer.
This address setting
is necessary to ensure that the installer laptop and the satellite modem can communicate during modem installation.
For your convenience, you may also want to set an alternate address on the installer laptop, as explained in Setting an
alternate IP address on the installer laptop on page 14. An alternate address is optional.
These instructions are for Windows XP. Procedures for other Windows operating systems are similar. If you need
additional instructions, see

1. Use the Windows Control Panel on the installer laptop to open the Local Area Connection Properties dialog and then
the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog. If you need more specific instructions, see

2. In the Internet Protocol Properties dialog, click Use the following IP address.
3. Enter the following:
a) In the IP address field, type 169.254.10.10 .
This will be the laptop IP address.
b) Typically the Subnet mask field auto-populates to 255.255.0.0 . If it does not, enter this value manually.
c) In the Default gateway field, type 169.254.0.1
.
This is the address you will use to access the modem's installation screens.
d) In the Preferred DNS server field, type 66.82.4.8 .
