10. Start of operation

10.1

Channel selection

The  wireless  hand  wheel  HBG  800-DP  offers  a
choice  of  21  channels.  These  channels  are
separated into 2 frequency bands:
Channel 0 – 3:

869 MHz  (for short antenna)

Channel 4 – 20:

433 MHz  (for long antenna)

Upon delivery channel 0 is set.

To  select  a  suitable  channel  please  acknowledge
the following:

Are  there  further  hand  wheels  or  other  units
working  in  the  ISM  band  433  MHz  or  869  MHz
nearby?

If  yes,  with  what  frequencies  do  they  work
exactly?

When  using  several  wireless  hand  wheels  the
used  channels  must  be  seperated.  If  possible
use  different  frequency  bands,  otherwise  the
channel  separation  should  be  at  least  3
channels (i.e. channel 4 + channel 7).

If machines are located side by side the channel
separation  should  be  at  least  6  channels  (the
more  the  better)  or  use  a  different  frequency
band! (i.e. channel 0 + 4)

Compare  the  frequencies  of  other  units  with  the
frequency  listing  attached  and  choose  only  one
setting  which  is  at  least  300  kHz  away  from  the
transmitting frequency of the adjoining units!

10.1.1  Field strength measurement
To search for a free channel a measuring routine is
integrated in the hand terminal:

o  switch  on  all  existing  wireless  units  (measuring

sensor, crane controll systems, etc..)

o  enter hand terminal set up (see 9.2)
o  set menue point „Test-Nr“ to 5 (see 9.4)
o  exit set up to run routine

Now  the  hand  terminal  scanns  continuously  all
channels  until  the  routine  is  stopped  with  button  X.
The  eight  best  available  channels  show  on  the
display,  the  best  on  the  upper  left,  the worst  on the
lower right.

Alternatively the channels can be scanned manually
with  test  routine  7.  The  channels  can  be  changed
with the b/-.
The maximum value can be reset with button X.

With the hand terminal walk up the operation range,
the maximum value should remain < 23! If this is not
the  case,  repeat  the measurement using a  different
channel. To do this, first switch off the hand terminal
with  an  emergency  stop.  After  that  start  the  setup
again and change the channel.

When selecting a channel please note the additional
points described under 10.1!

If  you  have  found  a  suitable  channel,  inform  the
access point of this channel accordingly:

o  change to the new channel on the hand terminal

(9.3).  While  exiting  the  set  up  in  the  hand
terminal  the  new  parameters  will  be  transmitted
to the access point. The connection is interrupted
and must be started again afterwards.

10.2

Set transmitting power

Activate  the  test  function  1  in  the  hand  terminal.
Now  the  display  shows  the  actual  receiving  field
strength and the minimum field strength.
With the hand terminal walk up the operating range,
is  the  minimum  value  <  30  then  the  transmitting
power  must  be  increased.  With  a  value  of  >  45  the
power should be decreased.

10.3

Set minimum level

The  BG  Institute  demands  a  limitation  in  working
range.  Therefore,  a  range value  must  be defined. If
the  range  value  is  violated,  the  vibration  alarm  sets
off  and  delays  the  forced  shut  off  of  the  machine
(emergency stop).

Activate  test  routine  1  in  the  hand  terminal  and
determine  the  minimum  value  outside  the operating
range.
The range value should be set to:

70 – measured value

Suggested range value: 35 - 45

11. Actions to avoid interruptions

1.

The  hand  terminal  must  be  turned  on  before
taking it out of the charging station

2.

During  the  loading  of  work  pieces  and  during
tasks  where  a  hand  wheel  is  not  required,
always return the hand terminal to the charging
station

3.

Do  not  put  larger  objects  into  your  way  that
block  your  direct  visible  contact  between  the
hand terminal and the access point

4.

When the vibration alarm sets off, change your
position quickly. Most of the time a slight turn is
sufficient

5.

Avoid  the  use  of  mobile  phones  nearby.
Especially the D net can cause interruptions on
channel 0 through 3

6.

Clean  the  loading  contacts  on  the  charging
station and the hand terminal from time to time
