Installing Cable & Ground from Surge Suppressor to ODU, Part 2
In Part 1 of this procedure, you connected the Cat5e cable and ground wire to the surge suppressor, ran the
cable and wire to the ODU, and connected the cable to the RJ–45 port of the ODU.
In Part 2, you install the ground wires at the ODU. These instructions are designed to ground the ODU and the
mounting platform, as required by the Canadian Electrical Code.
15.
For a J–arm platform, install a dual ground lug at the J–arm mast bracket. Before fastening the dual
ground lug to the mast bracket, scrape some paint from the area where the dual ground lug makes
contact to ensure a good electrical connection.
For a pole mount platform, install two ground straps around the pole, near the ODU, about a hand's width
apart. Ensure that the ground strap material is the same as the pole material (galvanized steel, for
example). A metal mismatch can cause a galvanic reaction that corrodes the metal.
16.
If you are using the ground wire supplied with the CPE, then you attached one end of the ground wire to
the ODU when you mounted it. At the other end, cut off the ring lug, strip about 1/2in–1 cm of insulation
from the wire, and insert the wire in one of the terminals on the dual ground lug, or to the upper ground
strap.
If you are not using the supplied ground wire, run Xplornet–approved 12AWG ground wire from the
ground screw on the ODU to one of the terminals on the dual ground lug, or to the upper ground strap.
17.
Tighten the screws at both ends to secure the wire.
