Server Shutdown Without IOP Reboot
This command is used primarily when upgrading or downgrading the Endurance server from
one Endurance release to another, or whenever you shut down the server and do not want it to
restart immediately.
This command shuts down the CE’s operating system and then shuts down the operating system
on each available IOP. The IOPs remain shut down and cannot be rebooted without either power
cycling each IOP or clicking the Restart button on the Windows shutdown notification screen
on each IOP.
Note:
This command is the best method for shutting down the Endurance server at
particular times during upgrade and downgrade procedures. During the upgrade
or downgrade process, it is important that the IOPs do not restart immediately if
one IOP is running one version of Endurance software, and the other IOP has a
different version of Endurance software installed.

Results
The monitor on the specified IOP initiates a shutdown of the Endurance
server. First, a request is issued by the monitor on the specified IOP to the CE
Endurance Management service to shut down the operating system if the CE
operating system is booted. The CE Endurance Management service initiates
the CE operating system shutdown. When complete, the monitor on the
specified IOP initiates a shutdown of the remote IOP (if it is available),
followed by a shutdown of the local IOP.
The IOPs do not reboot, and neither does the CE operating system. Instead,
the CE operating system waits at the MIC BIOS message
Initiating
Marathon Boot
, and the IOPs wait at the Windows shutdown notification
pop-up screen.
In order for the IOPs to reboot, manual intervention is required. To reboot the
IOPs, the operator must go to and power cycle each IOP, or click the Restart
button on the Windows shutdown notification pop-up screen on each IOP.
