Appendix K - Windows Component SQL Database Agent

The Windows Component SQL Database agent is designed specifically to protect Windows Server 
components such as Windows SharePoint Services, and Windows Server Update Service. In addition to 
storing content in a WMSDE/SSEE database, Windows Server components can store certain files in the 
file system. 

Regular backups of your WMSDE/SSEE databases in conjunction with File System backup will ensure 
protection and integrity of your Windows Server components.  

It is recommended that the user enable Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) option for backup jobs 
when creating DR backup sets

. Enabling the VSS option will ensure the user can restore all components 

without undertaking additional steps during the disaster recovery process. The aforementioned 
components include the IIS virtual server configuration and databases. 

NOTE:

 

The instructions for the additional steps are outlined in the Disaster Recovery section of this 

appendix. 

 

The backup set of a Windows Server component can require additional files or services to be backed up. 
Check the documentation of the Windows Server component. Here are some suggestions:

Logs 

 
In case Windows Server components are sharing some services, like IIS, all of those Windows Server 
components need to be backed up together to guarantee data consistency.
