Overview
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) is a Windows Server 2003 component. It is used to
improve user collaboration.
To manage this collaboration, information is stored in files on the Windows File System, as well as in a
database. Both the files and the database need to be backed up for restore or system recovery.
The Data Protector Express Agent for Windows Component SQL Databases will automatically discover
WSS databases and manage them as separate objects. Backing up an entire system, will also include those
databases.
Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 uses a special version of MSDE, known as SQL Server 2000 Desktop
Engine (Windows), or WMSDE.
Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 uses SQL Server 2005 Embedded Edition (SSEE).
If you are using Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (SPS 2003) or Microsoft Office SharePoint
Server 2007 (MOSS), the Data Protector Express Agent for Windows Component SQL Databases can not
be used. You need to use the Data Protector Express Agent for Microsoft SQL Server.
