Seed on Demand (SOD) System
Seed on Demand means on-demand continuous
refilling of the metering units from a central seed
tank.
The row units do not require a dedicated grain
hopper. In the metering units, only a small
amount of seed is present at a time. A specially
adapted pneumatic system continuously delivers
seed on demand.
The air flow required for the SOD system is
generated by a hydraulic fan located under the
seed tank.
The air flow is directed to the SOD distributor
under the seed tank. Here the air flow picks up
the seed from the central tank and delivers it to
the metering units whenever required.
SOD Distributor & Fan
All hoses, connections and the SOD distributor
must be leak tight and firmly mounted. Air leaks
lead to planting and metering errors.
The seed tank will be pressurized when the fan
is on. An air vent is located on the top of the seed
tank to control the pressure. Make sure the air
vent moves freely and is not plugged. This could
result in damage to the seed tank.
The seed tank is under pressure when the fan is
running. Never unlatch the tank lids with the fan
on. The lid could fly off and hit you causing
severe injury.
Fault messages in E-Manager may be caused by
air losses in the SOD system or in the vacuum
system.
Too low of a fan speed will cause the seed to not
fill the metering unit.
A speed of approx. 3600 rpm is required for corn.
For lighter seeds like sunflower, 3000 rpm is
sufficient.
Corn & Soybean 2500 – 4000 rpm
Sunflower 2600 – 3500 rpm
The SOD system works best
with the slowest possible air
flow velocity (fan speed) for the
seed transport.
Clean the SOD distributor once every week
during use. Watch out for seed and foreign
objects under the screen. These could disturb
the system and must be removed.
