TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS
ENGINE WILL NOT START
Electric starter does not operate
Starter operates, but engine will not start
Possible cause Correction
Battery connections loose or corroded. Clean and tighten battery connections
(page 97).
Batteries discharged. Recharge batteries (page 99).
Fuse(s) blown. Replace fuse(s)(page 100).
Oil indicator comes on. Low engine oil
level. Add oil.
Possible cause Correction
Drive clutch lever is squeezed. Release the drive clutch lever (page 72).
Auger clutch switch is ON position. Turn the auger clutch switch to the OFF
position (page 25).
Fuel valve lever is OFF.
Sediment cup obstructed.
Turn fuel valve lever to ON (page 44).
Check for contaminants in sediment cup
(page 109).
Stale or old fuel. Be sure tank has fresh fuel.
Drain carburetor and sediment cup (page
108).
Spark plug cap off.
Improper electrode gap or deposits in the
spark plug gap.
Make sure cap is connected.
Verify that spark plug is free of deposits,
and has proper gap (page 88).
Auto choke system is stuck from a foreign
material (ice, etc.). Push the manual start lever (page 45).
