5. Installation and commissioning
5.1. General
In order to prevent damage to the pump during installation
and operation, the following points must be observed:
• Installation work must be carried out by qualified per-
sonnel who observe the safety regulations.
• Before installation, the pump should be inspected for
possible damage.
• For controlling the water levels, the minimum water
submersion level must be taken into account.
• It is absolutely important to prevent air inclusions in
the pump housing and the pipework (by using suita-
ble air purging devices or by installing the pump with
a slight slant).
• Protect the pump against frost.
• The power cables for the pump must be located so
as to ensure operation without danger as well as easy
fitting/removal.
• Carry the pump by its handle and lower it on a rope or
chain down into the pumped medium. Do not lower
it down on the cable.
• Dry-running is absolutely prohibited. For this reason
we recommend a liquid level control.
• If a hose is used, please make sure that it has been
installed without kinks.
5.2. Installation
Danger of falling!
When installing the pump and its accessories, you
should work directly at the edge of the pool/tank! If
you do not pay attention or are wearing the wrong
kind of footwear, you may suffer a fall. This may en-
danger your life! You should carry out all the safety
measures for preventing this.
Fix the pressure pipe or the hose onto the pressure
connector of the pump and lay out the pressure pipes. If
you use a hose or pipe connector with a thread, then the
hose connector on the pump connection point can be cut
off. In order to ensure an optimum pumping performance,
the pressure line should have a diameter of at least ¾“.
In order to prevent reverse flow of the water when the
pump is turned off, it is possible to install an additional
non-return valve in the pressure line. The pressure line
should be installed in zero-stress mode.
If a hose is used, care should be taken that this is laid
without any kinks. If any accessory components are used,
e.g. fast couplings etc., it should be ensured that these
are sealed with a Teflon strip, since any leaks reduce the
performance of the pump.
The pump should be attached at its handle, by means of
a rope or chain, which must be used to lower it down into
the pumped medium. The pump must be positioned se-
curely on the bottom, if necessary open the cut-off valve.
5.3. Commissioning
This Chapter contains all the important instructions for
operating personnel regarding the safe commissioning
and operation of the machine. The following instructions
must be strictly complied with and checked:
• Installation mode
• Operating mode
• Minimum immersion depth under water/Maximum
immersion depth.
After any significant period of inactivity, the following
details should also be checked and any observed de-
fects should be corrected!
The operating and maintenance handbook must always
be kept near the machine or at a specially designated pla-
ce, where it is always available to all the operators.
In order to prevent damage to property or personnel when
putting the machine into operation, the following points
must be absolutely observed:
The commissioning of the machine may only be carri-
ed out by qualified and trained personnel who observe
the safety instructions.
• All the personnel who work with the machine must
have received, read and understood the operating in-
structions.
• This machine is only suitable for use under the con-
ditions indicated.
5.4. Preparatory work
The machine has been designed and built in accordance
with the current state of the art, so that it should work
for long periods and reliably under normal operating con-
ditions. However, this depends on your fulfilling all the re-
quirements and instructions.
Please check the following points:
• Routing of cables – no loops, and with a certain
amount of tension
• Check the temperature of the pumped medium and
the immersion depth
• If a hose is used on the pressurised side, this should
be rinsed out with clear water before use, in order to
ensure that no deposits cause blockages
• In the case of “wet” installation, the pump sump
must be cleaned out
• The pressurised and the suction side pipework sys-
tems must be cleaned and all the valves should be
opened
• The pump housing must be flooded, i.e. it must be
filled completely with the medium, and no air must
remain in it. The removal of the air may be achieved
through suitable venting arrangements within the ins-
tallation or, if this is available, can be carried out using
de-aeration screws on the pressure connection.
• Accessories, the pipework system and the suppor-
ting equipment must be checked for correct and pro-
per seating
