5. Setting up and starting up

5.1 General

In order to prevent damage to the pump while setting it

up and operating it, the following points are to be heeded:

• Setting-up work is to be carried out by qualified per-

sonnel in compliance with the safety regulations.

• Before being set up, the pump is to be checked for

any damage.

• In the case of level control systems, the minimum

water cover is to be ensured.

• Air inclusions in the pump housing and pipework

must absolutely be prevented (by suitable venting de-

vices or by slightly tilting the pump).

• Protect the pump against frost.

• The current leads of the pump must be laid so that

operation is safe and assembly/disassembly is easy.

• Running dry is most strictly forbidden. We recom-

mend a level control system for this purpose.

• Carry the pump by the handle and empty it into the

conveyed medium, not on to the cable, using a rope

or chain.If the supporting surface is muddy, lay stones

or the like under the pump to keep it from sinking in.

• If the substrate is sludgy, place stones or similar un-

der the pump to prevent sinking.

• If a hose is used, make sure it is laid without kinks.

5.2 Installation

Danger due to falling!
During the installation of the pump and its accesso-
ries, work is done directly at the edge of the basin.
Inattentiveness or incorrect footwear may cause a
fall. Danger of fatal accident!
Take all safety precautions in order to prevent this.

The pump must be installed according to the examples.

For installations to EN 12056-4, the pressure pipe must be

routed in a loop above the locally stipulated backflow level

and secured with a non-return valve. The non-return valve

supplied is only needed for mobile operation.

For a longer pressure pipe, choose a correspondingly large

pipe cross-section to avoid pipe friction loss.

Continuous venting of the pump housing may be needed

if the pump occasionally dries out (i.e. the discharge is no

longer submerged). This can happen if, for example, the

residual water in the collection sump evaporates or the

pump has gone into sip operation during a test run.

For reliable venting of the pump housing, the air vent

screw on the pump housing can be removed.

Automatic float switch

Because the float switch in the pump is directly con-
nected, the pump switches on automatically when
this switch is manually triggered! Therefore, make
sure that the pump is not connected when you are
working on it.

When the water level rises to the switch-on point, the

rising float switch automatically switches the pump on.

When the water level drops to the switch-off point due to

water being pumped out, the pump is switched off by the

float switch.

Purging device

The pump can keep the bottom of the sump largely free

of deposits in the suction area. The pump rate drops only

slightly due to this. For this reason, drill three holes mea-

suring 5 mm in diameter through the areas indicated as

shown in the image.
