6 Operation
Observe the safety instructions and warnings in this documentation and on the product.
6.1 Switching on
1. Press the rear section of the on/off switch.
2. Slide the on/off switch forward.

The motor runs.
3. Lock the on/off switch.
6.2 Setting belt speed
▶
Use the adjusting knob to set the belt speed.
Stages of belt speed
Stage 1 3.8 m/s
Stage 2 4.6 m/s
Stage 3 5.4 m/s
Stage 4 6.2 m/s
Stage 5 7.2 m/s
Stage 6 8.4 m/s
6.3 Grinding 4
CAUTION
Risk of injury! Touching a moving abrasive belt can lead to painful skin abrasion and cut injuries.

Do not touch the moving abrasive belt.
CAUTION
Risk of injury! Grinding makes the workpiece hot.

Do not attempt to touch the workpiece immediately after grinding and always wear suitable protective
gloves to prevent burns. Keep everyone clear of your work zone.
Before grinding, always check that the abrasive belt is centered on and in full contact with the rollers.
Never force the abrasive belt at an angle to the direction of travel.
1. Lift the pipe belt grinder clear of the work surface.
2. Switch the tool on. → page 23

The power tool then runs in sustained operating mode.
3. Set the belt speed. → page 23
4. Bring the pipe belt grinder with the abrasive belt into contact with the workpiece. Grinding takes place
between rollers A and B .
5. The arc of contact and the rate of abrasion can be influenced by varying the contact pressure.

The smaller the pipe diameter, the larger the possible arc of contact.
6.4 Switching off
▶
Press the rear section of the on/off switch.
▶
The on/off switch jumps into the off position and the motor stops.
6.5 Sealing
Hilti recommends sealing finished surfaces with a protective spray.
