Harrington Generators International
28
HRD Diesel Generator
498-1052
Operation
Replace the engine oil after the
fi
rst 50 hours, then
every 200. When changing the oil or topping-up, use
oil of a grade suitable for the prevailing ambient tem-
peratures (see table in engine handbook).
Coolant Level Check
WARNING
Explosive release of
fl
uids from pressurised cooling
systems can cause serious burns. Only remove
fi
ller cap when engine is cold or when cool enough
to touch with bare hands. Slowly loosen cap to
fi
rst
stop to relieve pressure before removing completely.
Ensure that there is suf
fi
cient coolant in the radiator.
To check the coolant level:
1. Remove the Radiator Access panel at the front of
the roof panel by turing the panel anticlockwise
releasing the panel lugs.
2. Remove the radiator cap (a) after the engine has
completely cooled and check to see that coolant
reaches the bottom of the neck (b).
(a)
(b)
3. If coolant level is low top up. Refer to Engine
Manufacturer’s Operation and Maintenance
Manual for details of Coolant Mix.
4. Replace the radiator cap.
5. Replace the Coolant Access Cover by locating
the Panel Lugs into the lug recesses on the roof,
press down slightly and turn clockwise to secure.
Coolant Capacity 7.6 litres
NOTICE
DO NOT
use the expansion bottle as indicator of
coolant level.
NOTICE COOLANTS
Organic Acid technology (OAT), Hybrid organic
acid technology (HOAT) and G5 antifreeze coolants
offer exceptionally long service life compared to
glycol antifreeze. It is recommend that OAT, HOAT
and G5 coolants are not mixed with each other or
any other type of coolant. Where possible always
use the same type as that supplied with your new
generator.
G05 is a low-silicate HOAT derivative, phosphate
free formula that includes the benzoate inhibitor.
WARRANTY CLAIMS
will be rejected where it
is found that coolant types have been mixed and
contributes to generator failure.
Fuel
WARNING
Diesel is highly
fl
ammable and explosive.
You can be burned or seriously injured when
handling fuel.
Stop the engine and keep heat, sparks, and
fl
ame
away.
Handle fuel in well ventilated areas.
Wipe up spills immediately.
Fuel Source
The generator uses Commercial diesel with up to 10%
bio-diesel .i.e. B10 blend.
The fuel is stored in an on-board bunded fuel tank
within the base of the generator. The tank has a ca-
pacity of 150 Litres.
Some generators have an option to have fuel sourced
either by using the on-board fuel tank or by using an
external fuel tank connected using the snap connec-
tors on the front left side of the generator base.
On these the respective fuel source must be selected
prior to use.
To select the fuel source:
1. Open the Left Hand Service Access Door.
