For the first time, the fields "Last name", "First name" and "Date of birth" are sufficient. All other
fields may be empty.
After you have created a new patient record, the Heidelberg Eye Explorer will create a new ex-
amination, too. This will be explained further in the next step.
If you want to create a new examination for a patient that is already in the database, it is not nec-
essary to re-enter all patient related data. Just select the desired patient and click on the "New Ex-
amination" tool bar button,
or press the right mouse button and select "New Examination" from the context pop up menu.
5.2.2 Creating a new examination
The creation of a new examination is the first step after you have entered a new patient. The Hei-
delberg Eye Explorer is using so called "acquisition modules" to create new examinations with
the different types of ophthalmological acquisition devices. These modules are called "plug-ins",
and can be easily integrated in an existing installation without changing the Heidelberg Eye Ex-
