WARNING 3
: USE CAUTION DURING PROPELLER
REMOVAL WHEN THE START LOCKS
ARE ENGAGED. IF THE BLADES ARE
RELEASED SUDDENLY, THE EXTREME
FORCE CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY
AND DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER.
(2) Routine propeller engine shutdown will engage the start
lock units, preventing the propeller from feathering. To
permit access to the spinner mounting bolts, the start
locks should remain engaged during the removal of the
propeller.
WARNING
:
MAKE SURE THE SLING IS RATED UP TO
800 POUNDS (363 KG.) TO SUPPORT THE
WEIGHT OF THE PROPELLER ASSEMBLY
DURING REMOVAL.
(3) Support the propeller assembly with a sling.
NOTE 1
: To permit rotation of the propeller for ease of
bolt removal, supporting the propeller with a
sling may be delayed until all but two mounting
bolts and washers have been removed.
NOTE 2
: If the propeller will be reinstalled, and it
has been dynamically balanced, make
an identifying mark (with a felt-tipped pen
only) on the propeller hub and a matching
mark on the engine flange to make sure of
proper positioning of the propeller during
reinstallation. This will prevent dynamic
imbalance.
CAUTION
:
DISCARD THE PROPELLER MOUNTING
BOLTS AND WASHERS IF THEY ARE
DAMAGED OR CORRODED, OR IF
THE PROPELLER IS REMOVED FOR
OVERHAUL.
(4) Cut and remove the safety wire from the propeller
mounting bolts.
