Cleaning and maintenance
The more the winch is used, the more frequent it should have its maintenance and cleaning:
environmental conditions and use influence the consumption of the winch components and should
determine the maintenance and cleaning frequency.
Winch must be frequently washed with fresh water, at least after each use.
Winches must be subject to careful maintenance at the beginning and end of every sailing season.
Complete maintenance, cleaning and lubrication must be performed every 12 months.
In particularly severe applications, check the greasing of the gears at the end of each day of racing.
Clean the drum grip with a high-pressure hose to eliminate any threads from lines and traces of oil
or other slippery substances that could reduce the grip of the lines on the drum.
WARNING!
Do not use Winch Metal Polish BK4520 on anodized aluminium components and plastic
components.
Do not use solvents, polish or abrasive pastes on logos and stickers of the Harken Winch.
Do not allow teak cleaning products or other cleaning substances containing caustic
solutions to come into contact with the winch and in particular with anodized, composite or
plastic winch parts.
WARNING!
Use a soft cloth for all cleaning and polishing operations.
Do not use abrasive cloths on any component.
Clean stainless-steel components only with Winch Metal Polish BK4520.
WARNING!
Lack of adequate maintenance shortens the life of the winch and may cause serious
accidents and invalidate the winch warranty.
