DAMPER
Or “Sustain” pedal-analogous to the RIGHT pedal
on a piano. Sounds are held when this pedal is
depressed. Called “Damper” due to the fact that
when the pedal was depressed on a piano, the
mechanism that muted or “damped” the strings
was raised, allowing the piano strings to ring free.
