1.4.5 User-Supplied Cabling Requirements

Cables for the hold switch, alarm relays, recorder output, and serial data should be

control

 cables (i.e. not power cables) with twisted copper wires and screen, and meeting

the specifications in 

Table 1-8

 below.

1.5 PC Installation

Install the Serial Port Card supplied with the instrument on your PC. This will enable
serial transmission between the 3624 instrument and the PC. RS-422/485 protocol
enables cable lengths of up to 1 km between the instrument and PC. If unsure on how to
install the RS-422/485 port card on your PC, please contact a Hach Ultra Service
Representative for installation details.

Install the ProBrix Plus PC Program software onto the PC, by inserting the
accompanying CD. Run the Setup program and follow the on-screen instructions.

To connect the PC to the instrument, connect the serial cable to the instrument terminal
block (see 

“3624 Indicating Instrument Installation” on page 13

), making sure the

connections are as indicated in 

Table 1-9

 (there is also an identifying sticker with this

information inside the indicating instrument).

The cable should use two twisted pairs and include a metallic shield to carry the ground
(earth) from PC to instrument. Make sure that the RX+ & RX-, and TX+ & TX- wires are
paired.
