Installation of the bitumen shingles
7.
Bitumen shingles are attached directly to roofboards. Appropriate working temperature is above +5 C. The
surface must be dry and clean. Begin from the eaves by fixing the first row of bitumen shingles, strips
upwards according to Pic. A. Measure the eaves' medium and place the joint of the bitumen shingles in the
eaves' medium. In order to ensure draining of water, it is recommended to leave this row of bitumen
shingles 0,5-1 cm over the eaves' edge. Remember to remove the covering film from the underside.
Begin the installation of bitumen shingles from the middle of the eave. Install the shingles in a way that
the joints under the overlapping shingles are covered, se Pic. B. Fasten the shingles with four special
(bitumen) clout nails (2 cm from the upper edge of marked points), see Pic. C. After nailing of the first
row of shingles, position the next row in alignment with the previous row; the next row must also cover
the nails of the previous row.
Continue installation in accordance with Pic. B. Cut off redundant shingle parts and begin the opposite
side of the next row with the same parts, see Pic. B.
Cover the side of the roof up to its top. Cover the other side of the roof as well.
The extra pieces for roof peak are produced by cutting the strips off from the bitumen shingles, Pic D.
Fasten the pieces on the roof peak (overlap about 5 cm) by folding the pieces to both sides of the roof
peak, see figure E. Nail the pieces with clout nails about each 10 cm.
The undersides of bitumen shingles are covered with self-adhesive material, which adheres
when the weather is warm.
Now follow the wind shield A6/B3 - they are mounted at approximately 2 cm at the exterior of the surface
of the roof. Finally, the ends of the lengths of roofing fabric are fixed behind the wind shields using the
strips A7/B4.
