2. General

The unit is switched off when the function switch is positio-
ned at CASS.

Ǽ

and none of the cassette drive operating but-

tons are depressed.

Even when the unit is switched off it remains connected to
the mains. Only by removing the plug will it be disconnected
from the mains.

Operation with Power Supply

The unit must be operated with a 230 V~, 50/60 Hz power
supply.

Connect the mains cable supplied to the MAINS ~ socket on
the rear of the unit.

Battery Operation

Battery operation requires eight IEC LR 20 mono-cell alkaline
batteries.

Remove the mains cable from the MAINS

~

socket.

Open the battery compartment on the rear of the unit.
Press the two catches and remove the cover.
Insert the batteries as shown in the diagram.

In order to ensure that the station memory is not lost when
the power supply is interrupted, insert two Mignon 1.5 Volt
LR 6, size AA batteries into the appropriate compartment.

Caution!

Remove exhausted batteries from the unit immediately!

If you do not intend to use your unit for an extended period of
time, you must remove the batteries even if they are new.

We cannot accept any responsibility for damage caused by
battery leakage.

Note on environmental protection

Do not dispose of batteries along with normal household rub-
bish!

When buying new batteries, return the old batteries to your
dealer or hand them over to a special waste collection point.

Volume

Use the VOLUME control to adjust the volume to the desired
level.

Sound

Using the TONE button allows you to emphasise the bass (

ɼ

)

or the treble (

ɦ

).

Using the UBD button the bass can be increased or decrea-
sed.

Surround sound

This creates an additional 3-D effect from stereo sound which
is relayed by the speakers.
To activate this effect, press the SURROUND button
( position

Թ

).

Surround sound can be used in CD, radio and cassette mode.
This effect cannot, however, be recorded on to tape.

Stereo Headphones

If you have stereo headphones with a 3.5 mm clinch plug,
you can connect them to the socket U on the top of the unit.
The built-in speakers are then switched off.

Note on Listening to Music with Headphones

In order to avoid permanent damage to your hearing, never
listen to music with the volume turned up high for an exten-
ded period of time. Never use headphones in a situation
where you need to be able to hear surrounding sounds (eg.
when driving).

The volume setting is correct if, while using headphones, you
can still hear your own voice when speaking at normal volu-
me.

Microphone Socket

This socket is for connecting an external microphone for tape
recordings (commercially available).
