BUC Power LED Is Red
This light will show red when the modem reads a short in the transmit path.
The f
irst thing you’d want to try is to just reset your modem, by unplugging it for 10 seconds and then plugging it back in, if
the light stays red after the reboot you need to bypass any of the transmit cable runs on the dish till you get a green light
on there.
The Most common cables to go bad are the cables connected at the end of the arm running to the BUC and LNB these go
bad after time mostly due to the higher amount of stress the dish puts them under when it adjusts skew.
Here are some images showing how this would work.
First you’d disconnect the red receive coax from the end of the arm. See the image below with the cable in question
circled.
Now you will want to remove the other end of the same cable where it connects to the transmitter, below is an image
showing this.
Now connect a new or spare coax cable in place of the one you just removed and power up the unit, after the modem
boots up completely(this takes a couple of minutes generally) if this was the bad cable the BUC Power light would
illuminate green and your modem would be ready to transmit again.
The example above is just the most common piece to go bad there are several other places where the coax could be
broken. Below is a photo showing all the cable runs on a Toughsat.
