Percolation test:
www.greenlife.de
General:
All percolation types are regulatory authorization in general.
The rain intensity increases to the south in Germany from the north.
Usually the calculation is based on a rainfall of 15 minutes. Exact rainfall intensity can be obtained from the water authorities.
A percolation test is still advisable because the owner, despite approval always acts in self-responsibility. The percolation test
measures the water permeability of the soil (= downwelling value).
Required equipment:
Spade, folding rule, metal rod or wooden slat (approx. 70 Centimeter), hammer, clock and of course water.
1. Pit excavation
50 cm x 50 cm x 50 cm
choose a suitable spot for
the percolation in the garden,
where no cables and pipes
are
2. Saturating the soil
Fill the pit with water -
complete drain away to
saturate the ground / soil.
Repeat it 3 times.
3. Measuring the water level
Filling the pit with water again,
this time half full.
After half an hour – measure the
water level.

The table data refer to a rain intensity of 120 l / (ha * s) at 15 min. Duration and frequency of exceeding n = 0.2 / year (5
years event). The volumes stated give approximate value with Reinhold'schen rain rows which should be verified by the
current worksheet A138 according to ATV DVWK.
