Hardware Description & Installation Manual
Mounting the Kaleido-MX (3RU) in a Rack
The Kaleido-MX (3RU) housing frame occupies 3RU, in a standard 19-inch rack.
To mount the frame
1 Open the front door to expose the rack mounting flanges at the ends of the chassis (see
Opening the front door
, on page 10).
2 Install the frame in the rack using 4 standard rack-mounting screws (not supplied)
through the four holes in the mounting flanges.
Ventilation
In a Kaleido-MX (3RU), ventilation for the frame is provided by a fan mounted in the center
of the rear panel. The fans draw air through the frame and exhaust it to the rear. Ventilation
slots in the front panel allow air to flow into the frame, and an air filter is mounted in the
frame door.
The frame-mounted fans are supplemented by thermostatically-controlled fans mounted
in each power supply. They are not field-serviceable.
Ensure that the front panel ventilation slots are not obstructed. Check the air filter regularly
to ensure that it is not plugged up with debris. The filter may be cleaned by rinsing in warm
water. Dry thoroughly before replacing it in the frame. See
Replacing the Air Filter
on
page 19, for details.
Signalling
This section describes the connectors found on the Kaleido-MX (3RU) units that have a
single full-width rear panel (KMX-3901-64x4-3RP). For more information on the connectors
found on the individual rear panels used with the cards in earlier Kaleido-MX (3RU) models,
refer to the
Kaleido-Modular-X Hardware Description & Installation Manual
(available on the
Kaleido-X DVD that shipped with your system, and from the Documentation Library section
of Grass Valley’s website). For information on setting up your system for initial deployment,
please consult the
Kaleido-MX (3RU) Quick Start Guide
that shipped with your system.
IMPORTANT
To ensure proper cooling, the front panel of the Kaleido-MX frame must be
closed at all times when cards are installed and operating.
