MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
12.After checking, secure the moisture switch
(224) with the screw (225).
13.Lubricate a new O‐ring (247), and install it in the
groove in the motor cover (230). Position the
dowel pin (413) in the hole in the upper bearing
housing (222). Press the motor cover into the
housing so hole in the bottom of the cover
aligns with the dowel pin (413) in the upper
bearing housing. Secure the motor cover and
lifting handle (231) to the motor housing with
the hardware (233 and 250).
Bearing Installation
When installing bearings,
never
press or
hit against the outer race, balls, rollers, roll
er or ball cage. Press
only
on the inner race
of the ball bearings, and inner and outer
races of the roller bearing. A metal or plas
tic sleeve with the same O.D. as the races
is useful for installing bearings.
NOTE
The ball bearings (203 and 207) are secured by a
tight press fit onto the shaft. The inner race of the
roller bearing (423) is secured by a tight press fit
onto the shaft. The outer race and rollers of the roll
er bearing are secured by a tight press fit in the low
er bearing housing (213). The ball bearings and in
ner race of the roller bearing may be heated to ease
installation on the shaft.
Do not
heat the outer race
and rollers of the roller bearing; heat the lower bear
ing housing instead.
Bearings should never be heated by direct
flame
.
An induction heater, hot oil bath or electric
oven may be used. If a hot oil bath is used to heat
bearings, both the oil and the container must be ab
solutely clean, and if the oil has been previously
used, it must be thoroughly filtered.
1. Fill bearings with “Shell Darina Grease R2” or
equivalent. Do not fully pack the bearings; allow
some room for expansion of grease when bear
ings are in operation.
Use tongs, insulated gloves, or other
protective devices when handling
heated bearings.
NOTE
Do not heat the bearings until ready to install. Heat
to a uniform temperature no higher than 250
_
F
(120
_
C), and slide onto the shaft in one continuous
motion to prevent cooling and sticking.
2. Lightly oil both ends of the rotor/shaft assembly
(201) and the I.D. and O.D. of the bearings.
3. Slide or press the upper bearing (203) onto the
shaft until it seats squarely against the shaft
shoulder.
NOTE
After the bearings has cooled, check that they have
not shrunk away from the shaft shoulders. If the
bearings have shifted, use a suitable sleeve and a
press to fit them snug against the shoulders.
4. Slide the lower bearing cover (206) onto the
shaft.
5. Position the ball bearing (207) on the shaft with
the wider shoulder of the inner race positioned
away
from the impeller end of the shaft. Slide or
press the bearing onto the shaft until it seats
squarely against the shaft shoulder.
6. Slide the support ring (208) onto the shaft until
fully seated against the ball bearing (207).
Press or slide the inner race of the roller bearing
(423) onto the shaft until fully seated against the
support ring.
NOTE
In the following step, the lower bearing housing
