STEP 62: LOWER LEVEL ROOF
1: PLACE THE 1 X 4 X 47-1/2" GROOVE-ONLY ROOF STARTER BOARDS AT THE PEAK OF THE
ROOF. THE HOLES IN THE ROOF STARTERS SHOULD BE APPROXIMATELY CENTERED (SEE BELOW) ON THE
ROOF SUPPORTS, AND THE FLAT ENDS OF THE ROOF STARTERS SHOULD BE PLACED AS CLOSE TO EACH
OTHER AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE BOARDS OVERLAPPING.
2: FASTEN THE ROOF STARTER BOARDS TO THE ROOF SUPPORTS WITH #8 X 1-1/2" WOOD SCREWS.
MEASURE DIM A ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THE ROOF SUPPORTS NEAR THE CORNER POSTS. WHEN
ATTACHING THE ROOF STARTER DIM B AT THE ROOF PEAK SHOULD MATCH DIM A. THIS WILL MAKE THE
ROOF SUPPORTS PARALLEL TO EACH OTHER. DUE TO WOOD MILLING VARIATIONS YOUR HOLES IN THE
ROOF STARTERS WILL EITHER BE CENTERED ON THE ROOF SUPPORTS OR THEY WILL BE OFFSET TOWARDS
THE INSIDE OF THE ROOF SUPPORTS SLIGHTLY. SUBTRACT DIM A FROM 47-1/2" AND THEN DIVIDE THIS
NUMBER BY 2. THIS WILL GIVE YOU THE OVERHANG FOR EACH SIDE. USE THE OVERHANG NUMBER ON
EACH SIDE TO KEEP YOUR ROOF SUPPORTS PARALLEL.
