Problem
Possible Reason
The Solution
There is too little coffee
powder in the filter bas-
ket or you are using the
wrong filter basket.
When using the 1 cup filter basket, only fill in 1-2 level
filled measuring spoons. With the 2 cup filter basket,
you may use 2-3 level filled measuring spoons. For the
pad filter basket, only use 1 separate espresso pad.
The filter baskets are labelled via an icon on the back.
If in doubt, ensure that you are using the required filter
basket.
The coffee powder stale. Use freshly roasted coffee beans with a “Roasted On”
date and grind just before the extraction. Consume the
coffee beans between 5-20 days after the “Roasted
On” date (see: ‚Selection and Storage of Coffee‘).
The coffee is not hot
enough.
The cups or the portafil-
ter were not pre-heated.
Rinse the cups using the hot water function and place
them on the warming tray. Rinse the portafilter, before
wiping the portafilter dry and filling in coffee powder.
The appliance did not
reach the operating tem-
perature, before brewing
started.
Always wait until the POWER button is illuminated con-
tinuously, before starting an extraction via the brew
function.
The group head has
not been purged before
extraction.
Purge the group head by activating the brewing func-
tion without the portafilter installed. This way, the parts
of the group head will be pre-heated and the coffee
temperature will be increased.
The milk is not hot
enough for making cap-
puccino or latté macchi-
ato etc.
The milk is tempered suf-
ficiently, when the bot-
tom of the milk jug gets
too hot for touching it.
Increase the time duration for texturing milk, thus incre-
asing the temperature, by pressing more steam into
the milk.
The milk has an
unpleasant taste/odour
after texturing.
The used milk is not real-
ly fresh.
Only use fresh, cold milk for texturing.
Residues of milk are on
the hot water / steam
wand, probably within
the stainless steel tube.
Always clean the hot water / steam wand in time
(see: ‘Cleaning the Hot Water / Steam Wand’). After
each usage, wipe off residues of milk from the hot
water / steam wand and purge the hot water / steam
wand by shortly operating the steam function. This
way, you reduce the build-up of dried-on milk.
The water within the
water tank is stale.
Each day before use, empty and refill the water tank
with fresh, cold tap water. Regularly clean the water
tank (see: ‘Cleaning the Water Tank’).
