6.2.3 Shear Fuse
WARNING
For the Airbus AS350 B2/B3 model rotorcraft, ensure that the shear fuse is rated for 75 in-lbf.
Shear Fuse PN 117-01067-04 from Mech Fuse Kit, 75 in-lbs (Kit P/N 011-04560-04).
NOTE
Shear fuse failure can result from either improper friction setting on the servo output arm
(refer to Section 4.7 for correct settings) or when mechanical fault in the servo requires
the pilot to apply the force on the controls to brake it. The servo must be replaced prior to
the next flight when shear fuse is broken by a pilot overcoming a servo mechanical fault.
NOTE
Ensure that the steps of Section 6.2.1 for the control rod linkage removal have been
completed prior to beginning removal of the shear fuse.
Refer to Figure 6-8 for details of the shear fuse installation.
Removal
1. If necessary, gain access to the shear fuse by rotating the servo output arm around until the shear
fuse is visible. If the shear fuse is broken, the servo output arm will rotate independently of the
output hub. An open-ended 1 1/8 inch wrench can be used to rotate the output arm and hub if
necessary.
2. Remove the two screws holding the shear fuse to the output arm and hub using a Phillips head
screwdriver.
3. Remove and discard the shear fuse.
Re-installation
NOTE
Prior to beginning re-installation of the shear fuse, ensure that the steps of Figure 6.2.4
for the servo output arm re-installation and Section 4.7 for resetting the output arm
friction washers, have been completed.
1. Align the slots in the servo output arm and servo hub such that the shear fuse can easily slide into
place.
2. Align fastener holes in the shear fuse with threaded holes in servo arm and the hub.
3. Install retaining screws and torque as specified in Figure 6-8.
