Use and Maintenance Manual – Pressure-sensitive bumpers type GSBPS
26/35
The actuation of the pressure-sensitive bumper during a dangerous phase of the operating cycle must
cause the stoppage of all hazardous moving parts or, where appropriate, ensure another safety condition.
Repeated motion of hazardous parts must not be possible unless the safety function has been re-
established;
Make sure that all additional guards (where necessary) have been mounted so to prevent access to the
hazardous parts of the machine from any direction not protected by the pressure-sensitive device;
An important characteristic for machine safety is the interface between the machine itself and the safety
device(s); make sure that all machine parts, including the safety device(s), the control circuit and the
connections of the safety devices comply with the results of risk assessment and categories (UNI EN ISO
13849-1Standard) prescribed by the relevant Regulation(s);
If applicable, inspect all muting devices according to the requirements indicated at point 5.2.5 of UNI EN
ISO 13849-1 Standard;
Check that all warning lights/light indicators work properly;
Check correct sensitivity of the safety bumper across the entire sensitive surface in compliance with the
manufacturer’s instructions;
In addition, other checks can be required by type C Standards relevant to the applications;
Check the stop over-travel according to the test method described in the chapter concerning the correct
selection of the safety device.
