10 Commissioning

The global safety of the machine and relevant safety devices depends on the quality, reliability
and correct installation of the relevant interfaces.
Once the installation operations have been terminated observing the mounting instructions given in this
Manual and before putting the machine/installation into production, the operator in charge with the machine
operation is obliged to make sure that all steps
to verify the system integrity
( indicated below) and
compliance of bumpers to the effective safety requirements of the machine/ installation have been actually
carried out. The same procedure is to be followed after all periodical inspections (once a month).
IMPORTANT: For bumpers type GSBPS01, GSBPS02 and GSBPS03 in combination with the control units
GP02/E, and GP02R.T (
UNI EN ISO 13849-1
), a functionality test is to be carried out each time the device is
powered On.
10.1 Functional test
The actuation of the pressure-sensitive bumper during a dangerous stage of the operating cycle
should cause the immediate stoppage of hazardous parts or, where appropriate, ensure another
safety condition. Repeated motion of dangerous parts should be prevented, unless the safety
function has been re-established

10.2 Verification of the system integrity
Carefully inspect the machine controls and connections to the pressure-sensitive device to make sure
that no modifications, which could adversely affect the system, have been made and that all correct and
suitable modifications have been recorded.
Check the efficiency of the pressure-sensitive device with power On but with the machine idle.
Where the Reset function has been provided, check that the machine cannot be restarted until the system
has been reset.
Check that the device is suitable for the environmental conditions where it should be used
Check the device for proper fastening;
Check the rated values and the characteristics of all inputs/outputs (e.g. fuse rating);
Make sure that in case of power failure from the pressure-sensitive bumper, this condition prevents the
machine from doing hazardous operations. All hazardous parts of the machine shall not be restarted until
the safety function has been fully re-established;
Motion of hazardous parts shall not be possible whilst an actuation force is applied to the effective
pressure-sensitive surface/area;
Make sure that the sensor has been installed to ensure full protection in all foreseeable actuation
directions and that dead zones do not increase the risk of injuries;
