Gas/Odor Filters

Most process plumes contain several gases, some odorous – some not, some toxic at elevated concentrations

– some completely harmless regardless of concentration.  To ensure employee safety the type and

concentration of pollutants must be determined.  Please contact Fumex Engineering for filter selection

assistance.

Part # FX1

Filled with virgin-grade activated carbon pellets and is UL Class 2 rated compliant.  It will not produce flame

when attacked by flame and emits only negligible amounts of smoke.

Part # FX1K

Virgin-grade activated carbon specially treated to eliminate exothermal reactions.

Part # FX2

These filters utilize a blended activated carbon and activated alumina impregnated with KMnO4 filter to

capture and treat gases/odors.  This combination of materials provides protection across a broad range of

gases commonly found in industrial manufacturing processes.

Part # FX4

Blend of FX1 with FX2 for broad spectrum gas treatment.

SELECTING GAS/ODOR ADSORBENT FILTERS

Media Selection and Service Life

Fumex offers different media types, each formulated to target the removal of various types of gas and odor.

Any of the following factors will impact service life and efficiency.

Concentration of the gas

 – higher concentrations improve capacity (increased pressure forces adsorption

deeper into the media).

Relative humidity

  – high RH substantially decreases capacity (except water miscible gases).

Temperature

 – high operating temperatures reduce efficiency and capacity and increase desorption.

Competitive adsorption

 – numerous gases confound capacity and efficiency estimates.

Exothermic Reactions

Certain gases such as ketones can undergo oxidation or other chemical reactions that can liberate hazardous

levels of heat in the presence of standard activated carbon.  In the presence of such gases

use only Fumex

FX1K

 adsorbent to eliminate this hazard.
