Mains switch ON / OFF
... with integral “Ready” indicator (lights up when
the mains switch is switched on)
Step switch
... divides the open-circuit and welding-voltage range
(welding-power range) of the welding machine into 10 steps (VST 247) or
15 steps (VST 317, 317-2)
Intermittent welding time / spot-welding time setting dial
... has a
different function depending on which operating mode the machine is in
Intermittent 2-step, intermittent 4-step mode ... for setting the intermittent
welding time t1 (recommended operating range: 0.1 - 5.0 sec.)
Spot-welding... for setting the spot-welding time or arc burn time in MIG/
MAG spot welding (setting-range: 0.1 - 5.0 sec.)
Operating mode selector switch
... for selecting the operating mode
- 2-step
- 4-step
- Intermittent 2-step
- Intermittent 4-step
- Wire inching
- Spot welding
Wirefeed speed dial
... for setting the wirefeed speed
Black scale ... for continuous setting of the wirefeed speed between 1 and
18 m/min in standard (manual) mode
Red scales ... one scale for CO
2
shielding gas and another for mixed gas,
for a wire diameter of 0.8 mm (VST 247) or 1.0 mm (VST 317). The scales
have marks to show the respective setting for the step switch, and help
you to make the correct settings (“Monomatic” system).
For wires of diam. 0.6 or 1.0 mm (VST 247) or 0.8 or 1.2 mm (VST 317
/ 317-2) when used with one or the other shielding gas mixture, the wirefeed
speed is set with reference to the inner (black) scale from 1-18 m, in
conjunction with the relevant adjustment tables.
N.B.!
On the Vario 8 wirefeeder, there is only the black scale 1 - 18 m/min.
This is for continuous adjustment of the wirefeed speed in conjunction with the
relevant “Welding parameters” adjustment table.
Malfunction indicator
... lights up when the machine is thermally
overloaded
Volt / ampere meter indicator (optional)
... indicates the welding
voltage and welding current
Mains plug and cable
Torch central connector
... for connecting the welding torch to the
machine
Earthing cable
with workpiece clamp
Torch control socket
... Plug the control plug from the torch into this
socket
Interconnecting cable socket
... for connecting up the interconnecting
cable on the VST 317-2
Current socket for interconnecting cable
... for connecting up the
interconnecting cable on the VST 317-2
Lead-through for gas hose
“Welding parameters” adjustment table
... These help the user to work
out the operating point (on the inside of the side panel)
N.B.!
If the VST 317 / 317-2 (3x400/500V~ version) is run on the 3x400V~
mains, the “Welding parameters” adjustment table does not apply.
2-roller drive
Polarity reverser
... for changing the polarity of the electrode; e.g. when
welding filler wires on the minus pole (on the inside of the VST 317 / 317-
2 power sources)
Fuse for power-supply to electronics
(1A slow)
Wire-spool holder
... for holding and securing standard welding-wire
spools weighing max. 20 kg
Shielding gas connection socket

Internal adjustment dials / Top view
N.B.!
The gas pre-flow time (0.25 sec.) and the gas post-flow time (1.0 sec.)
are permanently set.
Intermittent pause time t2 dial
... active when the operating mode
selector switch is in the Intermittent 2-step or Intermittent 4-step position
(setting range: 0.03 - 0.5 sec.)
