
ELECTRONIC CRASH SENSOR (ECS)
Removal
1. Before proceeding, see
AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. ECS is located on center tunnel, under
instrument panel. Disable air bag system. See
DISABLING SYSTEM
under DISABLING &
ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Leave negative battery cable disconnected.
2. Remove retaining clips and ECS cover. Disengage ECS electrical connector locking clip and disconnect
electrical connector. Remove ECS retaining bolts. Remove ECS from vehicle.
Installation
1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See
TORQUE
SPECIFICATIONS
. Connect negative battery cable. With air bag simulators installed at all deployable
devices, perform system operation check. See
SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK
. Disconnect negative
battery cable. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy.
2. Activate air bag system. See
ACTIVATING SYSTEM
under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG
SYSTEM. Check AIR BAG warning light for proper system function.

Removal (With Seat Integrated Restraints)
Before proceeding, see
AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. Disable air bag system. See
DISABLING
SYSTEM
under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Use this procedure to remove captain
chair and 60-40 seat. Disconnect front seat electrical connectors. Remove fifth foot trim cover. Remove bolt
caps and anchor nuts. Remove fifth foot anchor bolt. With help from an assistant, remove front seat from
vehicle.
Installation
WARNING:
Improper air bag system operation is possible. Personal injury may result.
ECS orientation is critical for proper air bag system operation. If ECS
mounting and bracket have been damaged, ECS must be replaced even if
air bags have not deployed. Replace or repair any other damaged air bag
system components or wiring that are adjacent to ECS.
CAUTION: Damage to ECS is possible. Exposure to static electricity can damage ECS
internal components. Ensure ECS is protected from static electrical
charges.
WARNING:
Personal injury is possible. Certain models are equipped with seat
integrated restraints with seat belt buckle pretensioners. Follow all air
bag system precautions when removing front seats equipped with
pretensioners.
