TOWING A TRAILER
WARNINGS
Do not exceed 100 km/h
Do not exceed the maximum
permissible gross train weight stated.
See
Do not exceed the maximum
permissible nose weight, e.g. vertical
weight on the tow ball. See
Do not exceed the maximum
permissible axle load stated on your
vehicle identification plate. See
The anti-lock braking system does
not control the overrun brake on the
trailer.
Note:
Vehicles equipped with electronic
stability control (ESC) have trailer stability
control included.
When towing a trailer:
•
Obey country specific regulations for
towing a trailer.
•
Do not exceed 100 km/h even if a
country allows higher speeds under
certain conditions.
•
Place loads as low as possible and
central to the axle of your trailer. For
best stability of the trailer in an unladen
vehicle, place the load in the trailer
towards the nose within the maximum
nose load as this gives the best
stability. See
•
Reduce the stipulated maximum
permitted gross train weight by 10%
for every additional 1,000 m in high
altitude regions above 1,000 m.
•
Use a low gear when descending a
steep downhill gradient.
The stability of your vehicle to trailer
combination is very much dependent on
the quality of the trailer.
TRAILER SWAY CONTROL
Note:
The system automatically turns on
every time you switch the ignition on.
Note:
Switching off the stability control will
turn off the system.
Note:
This feature does not prevent trailer
sway, but reduces it once it begins.
Note:
This feature cannot stop all trailers
from swaying.
Trailer sway control is an enhanced feature
of stability control system and
automatically detects when an attached
trailer starts to sway. This feature applies
your vehicle brakes at individual wheels
and if necessary, reduces engine power. If
the trailer begins to sway, slow your vehicle
down, pull safely to the side of the road
and check for correct load distribution.
See
Note:
Shifting to 4x4 Low will deactivate
trailer sway control.
Note:
Switching on the electronic locking
differential will turn off the system.
Note:
To switch off the trailer sway control
as required, See
